Genus: Cratopipa CARVALHO, AGNOLIN, ROLANDO, NOVAS, XAVIER-NETO, FREITAS & ANDRADE, 2019
Etymology: In reference to the Crato Formation, teh lithostratigraphic unit in which the holotype specimen was found, + Pipa, the type genus of the family Pipidae Family.

Etymology: In reference to the county of Nova Olinda, Ceara State, Brazil, the site where the fossil was discovered.
Holotype: UFRJ-DG 05
Locality: Pedra Branca Mine, Nova Olinda County, 7°6'51.9"S, 39°41'46.9"W, Ceara State, Brazil.
Horizon: Crato Formation.

Age: Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Late Early Cretaceous Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: A nearly complete skeleton, including soft tissue and skin.
