Genus: Qinglongtriton JIA, & GAO, 2016
Etymology: "Qinglong" refers to the Qinglong, Manchu Autonomous County, Hebei Province, China and Greek, triton, "a newt"; suffix commonly used for salamander names.

Species: gangouensis JAI, & GAO, 2016
Etymology: In reference to Gangou Township, in which the fossil locality occurs. 

Holotype: PKUP V0226

Locality: Approximately 300 m northwest of Nanshimenzi Village, Gangou Township, Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, China.

Horizon: Tiaojishan (Lanqi) Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oxfordian Stage, Lower Malm Epoch, Lower Late Jurassic.

Material: A nearly complete skull and skeleotn.
