Etymology: Latin, monstrum, "abnormal or supernatural wonder, monster": in
reference to the size of this species compared to the late Jurassic and Early
Cretaceous crown-group salamanders.
Holotype: ZIN PH 1/144
Locality: Berezovsk Quarry, 2 km south of Nikol'skoe village, Sharypovo District, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Western Siberia, Asian Russia.
Horizon: Itat Formation.
