Etymology: In honor of James W. Kitching, a prominent South African palaeontologist.

Holotype: BP 7

Locality: Katbos, Houdkonstat, 25 miles north of Graaff Reinet, Graaff Reinet District, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.


Biostratigraphy: Dicynodon Assemblage zone (formerly Daptocephalus zone).

Age: Tatarian Age, Lopingian Subepoch, Zechstein Epoch, Late Permian.

Material: Fragmentary skull.
