    Etymology: Greek, thele, 'nipple, ' and Greek, -phon, the final syllable
      of Procolophon, and now a common suffix in procolophonid generic names, e.g.,
Macrophon, Microphon, Timanophon.
  Species: contritus (GOW, 1977) MODESTO & DAMIANI, 2003 (Type)
  = Thelegnathus contritus GOW, 1977 
Etymology:
Holotype: BP 3512
Locality: The farm Winnaarsbaken, Burghersdorp District, East Cape Province, South Africa.
Horizon: Burgersdorp Formation, Tarkastad Subgroup.
Biostratigraphy: Cynognathus zone.
Age: Spathian Stage, uppermost Scythian Epoch to Anisian Stage, lowermost Mid Triassic Epoch, Early to Middle Triassic.
Material: Skull with some associated post-cranial bones.
