Etymology: Greek, archeo, "ancient" and Greek, pelta, "armoured"; because of the thick osteoderms that surround the body of the animal.

Etymology: Greek, arbore, "tree"; in allustion to the Sanga da Arvore (arvore is tree in Portuguese) where the holotype specimen was found.

Holotype: CPEZ-239a

Locality: Sanga da Arvore (Baum Sanga), Xiniqua region, Sao Pedro do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Santa Maria 1 Sequence, Dinodontosaurus Assemblage Zone.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Ladinian Stage, Uppermost Mid Triassic Epoch, Late Middle Triassic-Early Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Basicranium, a series of 13 dorsal vertebrae, 3 dorsal neural spines, 2 dorsal ribs, 2 sacral neural arches and their ribs, 2 sacral or caudal centra, 10 paramedian osteoderms, 3 lateral osteoderms, 4 undetermined osteoderms, proximal end of right humerus, proximal half of right uln,a right ilium, right ischium, right efmur and proximal end of right tiba.
