Genus: Austronaga WANG, LEI & LI, 2024
Etymology : Latin, auster, austral, "south or southern", referring to the South China Block wehre this taxon occured and naga, an Asian mythological figure that is snake-like and associated with water.

Species: minuta WANG, LEI & LI, 2024
Etymology: Latin, mintua, "small", in reference to the relatively small body size of this animal compared with most of tis Triassic marine archosauromorph relaties.

Holotype: IVVP V18579

Locality: Waina Village, Luoping County, Yunnan Province, Southern China.

Horizon: Member II, Guanling Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Pelsonian, Middle Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic.

Material: Nearly complete skull, articulated anterior cervical vertebrae and most of the caudal vertebrae.

Note: Soft tissue preservation, stomach and some fiber-like branching structues which might represent capillary-sized blood vessles, liver, small instestine, large instestine, skin and muscles behind the pelvis on the tail (WANG, FRASER, SPIEKMAN, LI, RIEPPEL, LEI SCHEYER & LI, 2026.
