Etymology: Greek, idios, "distinct, peculiar", and Greek, saura, "lizard"; Disticnt lizard.

Species: virginiensis KLIGMAN, SUES & MELSTROM, 2024
Etymology: In reference to Virginia and Latin, -ensis, “of a place”.

Holotype: USNM PAL 770104

Locality: USNM locality 39981 (informally known as the Tomahawk locality after the adjacent Tomahawk Creek), along the former course of Old Hundred Road near Midlothian, 37°27'50"N, 77°40'17"W, Chesterfield County, east-central Virginia.

Horizon: Tomahawk Creek Member, Vinita Formaiton, Newark Supergroup.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Carnian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Tooth-bearing left dentary missing its anterior end and parts of its posteroventral wall.

Referred material:

USNM PAL 770104: Dentary fragment with four complete tooth crowns.
