Genus: Jaxtasuchus SCHOCH & SUES, 2014
Etymology: Jaxt, old German name for the Jagst, a tributary of the Neckar, and from Greek, soukhos (Latinized; suchus), name for the ancient Egyptian crocodile-headed deity Sobek (also given as Sebek or Sobk), a commonly used suffix for generic names of reptiles.

Etymology: In honor of Hans Michael Salomon who discovered the first two partial skeletons of the new archosauriform taxon and donated them to the Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart.

Holotype: SMNS 91352 A-C

Locality: Schumann Quarry, Vellberg (Eschenau), east of the Schwäbisch Hall, Baden-Württemberg State, Germany.

Horizon: Upper member of the Lower Keuper, Erfurt Formation, Untere Graue Mergel, bed 6 of Schoch, 2002.

SMNAS 91352 a, b (part and counterpart): A mostly articulated skeleton lacking the skull and cervical vertebrae.

SMNS 91352C: Pelvic region, hind limbs and much of the tail.

SMNS 91083: A partial, disarticulated anterior portion of a skeleton including both maxillae, probably left posterorbital, anterior part of the left nasal, posterior process of left premaxilla, right pterygoid, supraoccipital, basioccipital, both exoccipitals, and left angular, 7 transvers rows fo osteoderms, each comprising 4 elements, cervical vertebrae 2-8 and cervical ribs.

SMNS 91002: Complete forelimb, dorsal osteoderms, and associated femur.

SMNS 90500: Caudal osteoderms, 2 vertebrae and 2 ribs.

SMNS 81868: 1 dorsal vertebra.

SMNS 81906, 90046: 2 caudal vertebrae.
