Etymology: In reference to Kenya, the country of origin and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: mariakaniensis HARRIS & CARROLL, 1977
Etymology:

Holotype: KNM-MA1

Locality: The specimen was recovered from a road cutting on the northeast side of the Nairobi-Mombsa road, approximately 3 km north of the village of Mariakani, 10 km north of Mombasa, Kenya.

Horizon: Maji ya Chumvi beds.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lower Middle Duruma Sandstone series of Early Triassic.

Material: Fragmentary skeleton.
