Genus: Sanguasaurus COX, 1969
Etymology: In reference to the Sangu stream, near where the fossil was found in the Luangwa Valley, Eastern Province, Zambia and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Sangu lizard.

Species: edentatus COX, 1969
Etymology: Latin, edentatus, "to make toothless."

Holotype: Livingstone Museum LM/NH 9/1

Locality: Locality 15 of Drysdall & Kitching (1963), about 3 1/2 miles west of Site, Upper Luangwa Valley, Eastern Province, Republic of Zambia, East Africa.

Horizon: Ntawere Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: ?Upper Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Lower Middle Triassic.

Material: Premaxilla, right and left maxillae, right and left quadrates, postero-dorsal corners of both squamosals, right prefrontal, intertemporal bar, consisting of interparietal and right and left parietals.

Etymology: In honor of British paleontologist Dr. F. R. Parrington

Locality: Locality of 328 of Nowack (1937), west of the N'datira River, a tributary of the M'himbasi, which in turn runs into the Ruhuhu River, due east of the Litumba Catholic Mission, Ngaka sub-basin, Songea District, Southern Province, Tanzania, East
Africa.

Horizon: Manda Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Skull lacking most of the squamosals and posterior part of the palate, associated with post-cranial bones.

Referred material:

UMCZ T1225: Complete right femur.

Locality: 4.6 km northeast of the village school in Litumba Nydosi, and about 1.4 km from the closest approach of the Ruhuhu River, Ketewaka-Mchuchuma sub-basin, Ruhuhu Basin, Southern Province, Tanzania, East Africa.
