Etymology: Roman name for the Isle of Wight, Vectis, and Latin, pelta, "shield"; in reference to the characteristic dermal armor.

Etymology: Inhonor of Prof. Paul M. Barrett, in recongition of his major and ongoing contributions to dinosaurian vertebrate palaeontology, and his importance to SP, TJR and SCRM as a mentor, supervisor, colleague and friend.

Locality: Approximately 50 m to the west of Chilton Cine, in an ara which forms part of the Crompton Chine to Steephill Cove Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the Compton to Atherfield Geological Conservation Review Site, and the Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Isle of Wight County, England, Southern United Kingdom.

Horizon: Wessex Formation, Wealden Group.
