Genus: Avimaia BAILLEUL, O’CONNOR, ZHANG, LI, WANG, LAMANNA, ZHU & ZHOU, 2019
Etymology: Latin, avi-, "bird" and Greek, maia, "good mother": referes to the fact the specimen is a female preserved with an egg in the body cavity.

Etymology: In honor of Mary Higby Schweitzer for her ground-breaking works on MB and for her role in establishing the field of molecular paleontology.

Holotype: IVPP V25371

Locality: Near Changma Village, Yumen City, Gansu Province, northwestern China.

Horizon: Xiagou Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lower-Middle Aptian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: An articualted partial skeleton with some feather traces, consisting of the caudal half of the axial column, pelvis, and the hind limbs.

Note: Has a crushed egg inits body cavity.

Locality: Area sourrounding the town of Changma, Changma Basin, northwestern Gansu Province, China.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aptian-?Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Uppermost Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material:

CAGS-IG-04-CM-007: A partially articulated appendicular skeleton consisting of a fragmentary pelvic girdle and largetly complete hind leg. Acetabular portion of right ilium and ischium and nearly complete pubes, distal half of left femur, nearly complete left tibiotarsus, proximal end of left fibula and complete left tarsometatarsus and pes, right complete femur and proximal half of the tibiotarsus.

Note: Possible feather impressions are preserved adjacent to the putative left femur.
