Etymology: In reference to the village of Xiaotazi, Jianchang County, Liaoning Province, China, where the specimen was found.

Holotype: IVPP V18631

Locality: Xiaotaizi Village, Lamadong Town, Jianchang County, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Jiufotang Formation, Jehol Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Middle Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull and skeleton, with feather impressions.
