Etymology: In reference to the Gobi desert, and Greek, pipos, "a young bird or chick"; alluding to the embryonic nature of the fossil from the Gobi desert.

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Valeri Reshetov, former leader of the Mongolian -Russian expedition team, who discovered the specimen.
