Genus: Hongshanornis ZHOU & ZHANG, 2005
Etymology: In reference to the Hongshan culture, one of the earliest Chinese
cultures mainly recorded in this region, and greek, ornis, "bird."
Species: longicresta ZHOU & ZHANG, 2005
Etymology: Latin, longi, "long" and Latin, cresta, "crest": refers to the raised crest of this bird.
Holotype: IVPP V14533a/b
Locality: Shifo, Ningcheng, Inner Mongolia, China.
Horizon: Yixian Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
