Etymology: Chinese pinyin, Huoshan, "volcano," Greek, ornis, "bird"; in reference
to the geoenivronmental background of the Early Cretaceous, which is characterized
by high rates of volcanism.
Species: huji WANG, ZHANG, GAO, HOU, MENG & LIU, 2010
Etymology: The species name huji represents an abbreviation in Chinese pinyin
and refers to the lacustrine deposits characteristic of Jiufotang and Yixian
Formations in western Liaoning Province.
Holotype: Dalian Natural History Museum, D2126
Locality: Dapingfang, Chaoyang County, Western Liaoning Province, China.
Horizon: Jiufotang Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: An almost complete specimen.
