Etymology: Latin, limen,"threshold" and Latin, avis, "bird": Threshold bird.

Species: patagonica CLARKE & CHIAPPE, 2001
Etymology: In reference to Northern Patagonia, Argentina, where the specimen was found, for the window it offers into the origin of the radiation of the avian crown clade.

Holotype: PVL 4731

Locality: Salitral Moreno, 20 km south of General Rocka, Rio Negro Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Allen Formation, Lower Malargue Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Allenian Tetrapoda Assemblage, Late Campanian-Early Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Associated distal portion of a right wing, portion of the shaft and distal end of the humerus, proximal and distal ends of the ulna, proximal end of the radius, proximal and distal ends of the carpometacarpus, ventral ramus (crus longus) of the ulnare, radiale, most of the proximal phalanx of digit II including the distal end, and several indeterminate fragments.
