Genus: Shanweiniao O’CONNOR, WANG, CHIAPPE, GAO, MENG, CHENG, & LIU, 2009
Etymology: Shan wei miao, meaning 'fan-tailed bird' in Chinese; refers to the fact that this specimen preserves the first known occurrence of an enantiornithine fan-shaped feathered tail.

Etymology: In honor of Carl and Lynn Cooper for thier generous support in the study of Mesozoic birds from China.

Holotype: DNHM D1878/1 counterpart DNHM D1878/2

Locality: Lingyuan, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Dawangzhangzi bed, middle Yixian Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: Nearly complete and largely articulated adult individual preserved in a slab and counterslab.

Note: Has feather impressions.
