Genus: Tianyuornis ZHENG, O’CONNOR, WANG, ZHANG, & WANG, 2014
Etymology: The genus name refers to Shandong Tianyu Museum of Nature where the specimen is housed, and Greek, ornis, "bird."

Species: cheni ZHENG, O’CONNOR, WANG, ZHANG, & WANG, 2014
Etymology: In honor of Professor Chen Pijii for his great contribution to Chinese geology and generous support of the developemnt of STM.

Holotype: STM7-53 (part and counterpart)

Locality: Xisanji locality, Ningcheng, Nei Mongol (Inner Mongolia), China.

Horizon: Yixian Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: A nearly complete subadult specimen.

Note: Has feather impressions.
