Etymology: Greek, kompsos, "elegant" and Greek, oura, "tail."

Holotype: IVPP V27883

Locality: Near the Xiaoyaogou site, Jianchang Country, near Huluado City, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Jiufotang Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull, skeleton missing pectoral girdle.

Note: With feather impressions on hind feet and long tail feathers.
