Genus: Yuornis XU, BUFFETAUT, O’CONNOR, ZHANG, JIA, ZHANG, CHANG & TONG, 2021
Etymology: 'Yu' refers to an ancient name for Henan, the province where the specimen was found, and Latin, ornis, “bird”: Great-great-grandfather bird.

Species: junchangi XU, BUFFETAUT, O’CONNOR, ZHANG, JIA, ZHANG, CHANG & TONG, 2021
Etymology: In honor of the late colleague Professor Lü Junchang (Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences), who as involved in teh study but passed away on 9 October, 2018.

Holotype: Henan Museum of Natural History, L-08-7-3

Locality: Near Qiupa village, Luanchuan County, western Henan Province, north-central China.

Horizon: Quipa Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Cretaceous.

Material: Skull, mandible, and partial skeleton.
