Genus: Ahshislesaurus DALMAN, JASINSKI, MALINZAK, LUCAS, KUNDRAT & FIORILLO, 2025
Etymology: In reference to the Ah-shi-sle-pah Wash Wilderness in the lower Hunter Wahs Member of the Kirtland Formation in northwestern New Mexico where the new species was found. Ash-shi-sle-pah Wilderness is located in San Juan County, New Mexico, between Chaco Canyon and the Dena-zin Wilderness. Its name is a phonetic transliteration of Navajo "ashijih liba" meaing "salt, it is gray," and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: “Awake
lizard”.

Etymology: In honor of the first Swedish professor of palaeontology, Carl Wiman (1867-1944) from Uppsala University, who worked on fossil vertebrates from the San Juan Basin.

Material: Posterior skull roof consisting of prefrontals, frontals, postorbitals, squamosals, the right and left quadrates, parietal and braincase, right jugal, left dentary, right surangular, the axis and third and fourth cervical vertebrae.
Note: LUCAS et al, (1987) and HORNER (1992), refere this to Kritosaurus navajovius, WILLIAMSON, 2000 notes that it is undignostic not referable to Kritosaurus.
