Etymology: In reference to the Amur region, where the specimen was found, and Greek, sauros, 'lizard'.

Species: riabinini BOLOTSKY & KURZANOV, 1991
Etymology: In honor of Anatolii Nikolaevich Riabinin.

Holotype: AEHM 1/12

Locality: Upper part of Nagornaia Street, southern part of the city Blagoveshchensk, 50°16'07.63"N, 127°28'50.24"E, Amur Province, Asian Russia.

Horizon: Lower section of the Tsagayan Formation, (Tsagayanskaya Svita).

Biostratigraphy: Wodehouseia spinata--Aquilapollenites subtilis palynozone.

Age: Middle Maastrichtian Stage, uppermost Senonian subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Associated left maxilla and dentary.
