Etymology: Latin, Equus, "horse," and Latin, juba, "mane";
Horse Mane is what ‘Ma Zong’ means in Chinese, and Ma Zon Mountian
is where the fossil was recovered.

Etymology: In honor of Dr. David B. Norman for his work on ornithopod dinosaurs.
Holotype: IVPP V 12534
Locality: Gongpoquan Basin, Mazongshan, Gansu (Kansu) Province, China.
Horizon: Middle Gray Unit, Xinminbao Group.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Skull with mandible articulated, and partial postcranial material.
