Etymology: Latin, australis, "south." In reference to South America.

Holotype: MACN-PV 2 (old MACN-RN 02)

Locality: Near the Arroyo Verde, southeastern Rio Negro Province, (Central Investigaciones Cientificas de Rio Negro Province), near the border of Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Los Alamitos Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Allenian Tetrapoda Assemblage, Late Campanian-Early Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Right prefrontal,left postorbital, a partial sacrum including 4 fused centra, several disarticulated sacral vertebrae and ribs and various middle caudal vertebrae, left and right sternals, right coracoid and scapula, left and right ilia, left and right ischium lacking the distal half of each shaft, left and right pubes, left femur and proximal right femur.

Paratypes:

MACN-PV (old MACN-RN) 142 "exemplar A": Oral fragment of premaxilla, fragmenary braincase with parietal, frontal and postorbital, a right frontal, right maxilla, anterior fragment of the right jugal, anterior regions of dentaries, subadult left dentary and left scapual.

MACN-PV (old MACN-RN) 143 "exemplar B": Fragmentary braincase including parts of the bassioccipital, porotic and basisphenoid.

MACN-PV (old MACN-RN) 144: Partial skull roof and braincase including supraoccipital, parietal, frontals, postorbitals and a fragment of squamosal.

MACN-PV (old MACN-RN) 145: 11 dorsal and 6 caudal vertebrae, radius, ulna, distal fragment of femur with closed intercondylar canal, 2 metatarsi, ribs and a predentary fragment with well developed denticles.

MACN-PV (old MACN-RN) 146: Right scapula, left ilium lacking the preacetabular process, fragmentry preacetabular process, and proximal region of a left ischium.
