Etymology: In reference to the geographic area that includes the type locality, Jinzhou City, Yixian County, Liaoning Province, China and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: yangi WANG & XU, 2001
Etymology: In honor of Yang Zhongjian who is the founder of the vertebrate paleontology in China.

Holotype: IVPP V12691

Locality: Baicaigou, Toutai, Jinzhou City, Yixian County, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Dakangpu member, middle part of the Yixian Formation.

Biostratigraphy.

Age: Huaterivian Stage, Upper Neocomian Subepoch or Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Complete skull and nearly complete skeleton.
