Genus: Koutalisaurus PRIETO-MARQUEZ, GAETE, RIVAS, GALOBART & BOADA, 2006
Etymology: Greek, koutali, "spoon," in reference to the extreme medial extension of the edentulous region of the dentary, which would have given a 'spoon-like' appearance to the jaws of the animal when both dentaries were articulated, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: In honor of Terry and Mary Kohler, for thier support of research in vertebrae paleontology.

Holotype: IPS SRA 27

Locality: Les Llaus, near the town of Abella de la Conca, Lleida Province, Spain.

Horizon: Tremp Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Upper Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Edentulous right dentary.
