Etymology: Tehuelche, sekten, "island," in reference to the site where the fossils were found, and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: sanjuanboscoi IBIRICU, CASAL, MARTINEZ, LUNA, CANALE, ALVAREZ & RIGA, 2019
Etymology: In honoro of Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia, San Juan Bosco, university were most authors (Lucio M. Ibiricu, Gabfriel A Casal, Ruben D. Martinez, Marcelo Luna, and Bruno N. Alvrez) either work or have completed their university degree.

Holotype: UNPSJP-PB 1054

Locality: Ephemeral island near the southeastern shore of Lago Colhue Huapi, 45°35'52"S, 68°37'20"W, 35 km East of Sarimento City, southern Chubut Provience, central Patagonia, Argentina.
