Etymology:
Greek, archaios, "ancient," Greek, odous, "tooth," and Greek, sauros, "lizard": refering to archaic, prosauropod-like appearance of the teeth.
Species: descouensi BUFFETAUT, 2005
Etymology: In honor of Dr. Didier Descouens (Toulouse), thanks to whom the specimen could be acquired by the Toulouse Natural History Museum and as made available for scientific descritpion.
Holotype: MHNDPal 2-396
Locality: Vicinity of Ambondromamy, Majunga Basin, northwestern Madatascar.
Horizon: Isalo IIIbFormation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Bathonian Stage, Dogger Epoch, Early Jurassic.
Material: Incomplete right dentary containing several teeth.
