Etymology: Greek, ankylos, “curved, crooked [stiff, fused]," and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: “Stiff lizard”.

Species: magniventris BROWN, 1908
Etymology: Latin, magnus, "great" and Latin, venter, "belly."

Holotype: AMNH 5895

Locality: 61-67 m below the K-T boundary, near Gilbert Creek, probably somewhere in Sec. 27, or 28, T 22N, R 40E, 120 miles north of Miles City, Custer County, Montana.

Material: Top of skull, 2 teeth (?), 5 cervical, 11 dorsal, 3 caudal vertebrae, fragmentary sacrum, right scapulocoracoid, ribs, dermal armor, and many fragments.
