Genus: Chialingosaurus YOUNG, 1959
Etymology: Named for the Chialing river, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: “Chialing river lizard”.
= Chialangosaurus COLBERT, 1961 (sic)

Species: kuani YOUNG, 1959
Etymology: Named in honor of Kuan Yao Wu, who was surveying the middle reaches of the Chialing River of the Sichuan basin in 1957.

Locality: Taipingtsai, Quixan, Yunghsing, Chuhsien, Sichuan (Szechwan) Province, China.

Horizon: Upper Shangshaximiao Formation, Chunkign Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oxfordian Stage, Lower Malm Epoch, Early Late Jurassic.

Material: 6 vertebrae, 3 cervicals, 4 dorsals, incomplete left scapula, right scapula, 2 coracoids, 2 humeri, right radius, distal portion of right ischium, left femur, metatarsal III, fragments of limb bones and a dermal plate.

Paratype:

Locality: From a location 100 m west of type quarry, Taipingtsai, Quixan, Yunghsing, Chuhsien, Sichuan (Szechwan) Province, China.

Horizon: Upper Shangshaximiao Formation, Chunkign Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oxfordian Stage, Lower Malm Epoch, Early Late Jurassic.

Material:

CV 203: 2 fragmentary cervical vertebrae, 6 incomplete dorsal vertebrae, 5 caudal vertebrae lacking their spines, a postacetabular process of a left ilium, and left femur.

CV 202: A fragmentary skull and lower jaws, 3 cervical, 4 dorsal and 4 caudal vertebrae, ulna, radius, tibia, fibula, astragalus and calcaneum, a parital humerus, and 4 dermal plates.

Species: guangyuanensis (listed in LI & CAI, 1998) (nomen nudum)
Etymology: In reference to Guangyuan, the area where the specimen was discovered.
