Genus: Crichtonpelta ARBOUR & CURRIE, 2015
Etymology: In honor of Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, and Latin, pelta, "a small shield"; in reference to the osteoderms found on all ankylosaurs.

= Crichtonsaurus benxiensis LU, JI, GAO & LI, 2007
Etymology: In reference to the Benxi Geological Museum, where the holotype is housed.

Holotype: BXGMV--12

Locality: Beipiao, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Sunjiawan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic Subepoch, Lowermost Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous-Turonian Stage, upper Gallic subepoch, lower Gulf Epoch, Early Late Cretaceous.

Material: A nearly complete skull.

Referred specimen:

BXGMV0012-1: Incomplete skeleton with out skull.

Locality: Shuangmiao, Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Sunjiawan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Albian-Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic subepoch, Lowest Gulf Epoch, Late Early to Early Middle Cretaceous.

Material:

G20090034: A nearly complete skull missing the anterior rostral portion.
