Genus: Crichtonsaurus DONG, 2002
Etymology: In honor of Mr. Michael Crichton, author of the book “Jurassic Park”, and Greek, sauros, "lizard": Crichton’s lizard.

Species: bohlini DONG, 2002
Etymology: In honor of Dr. B. Bohlin, a well-known Swedish collector of vertebrate fossil including several ankylosaurs along the Silk Road, northwestern China.

Holotype: IVPP V 12745

Locality: Beipiao Basin, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Sunjiawan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Cenomanian Stage, Uppermiddle Gallic Subepoch, Lowermost Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous-Turonian Stage, upper Gallic subepoch, lower Gulf Epoch, Early Late Cretaceous.

Material: Fragment of left mandible with 3 teeth.

Referred material:

IVPP V 12746: 2 cervical and a complete dorsal vertebrae.

LPM 101: 4 sacral and caudal vertebrae, complete scapula, coracoid, humerus, femur, as well as various plates and scutes of dermal armor.
