Etymology: In reference to Dongyang City, where the specimen was found, and Greek, pelta, "shield."

Etymology: In reference to Yangyan Village, where the specimen was found.

Holotype: DYM F0136

Locality: Pinglinggang Hill, Yangyan Village, Mazhai Town, Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province, China.

Horizon: Chaochuan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Uppermost Albian-Lowermost Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic subepoch, Lowest Gulf Epoch, Late Early to Early Middle Cretaceous.

Material: Sacrodorsal vertebrae, sacral vertebrae, dorsal ribs, ossified tendons, at least six different types of osteoderms, teh partial right ilium fused with two sacral ribs including teh anterior end of the right preacetabular process, a complete right femur, and three pedal phalanges.
