Genus: Dracopelta GALTON, 1980
Etymology: Latin, draco (masculine), "a Dragon," and Greek, pelta (feminine), "small shield" in reference to armor.

Species: zbyszewskii GALTON, 1980
Etymology: Named in honor of Dr. Georges Zbysweski of the Geological Survey of Portugal in recognition of all his research on fossil vertebrates in Portugal.

Holotype: SGP

Locality: Praia do Sul (Assenta), near Torres Vedras adn Ribamar da Ericeira, west coast of Portugal.

Horizon: Freixial Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Tithonian Stage, Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Dermal armor of the thoracic region consists of very small isolated flat scutes, small medial paired circular plates with raised centers and rims, very long anterolateral plates, narrow no projecting overlapping dorsolateral plates and overlapping laterally projecting lateral plates, fragmentary dorsal vertebrae, centra, and ribs.
