Etymology: Greek, dyo, “two”, Greek, hoplon, “weapon, shield”, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: “double-armored lizard”.

Species: acutosquameus PARKS, 1924
Etymology: Latin, acutus, "sharp" and Latin, squama, "scale."

Holotype: ROM 784 (formerly ROM 4929)

Locality: Quarry 002, Sec. 4, Tp. 21, R11W of 4th Mer., Red Deer River, Steveville, Dinosaur Provincial Park, Newell County, Alberta Province, Canada.

Horizon: Dinosaur Park Formation, upper Judith River Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Judithian age, Middle Campanian Stage, middle Senonian subepoch, upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: 3 fragmentary teeth, fragmentary skull, mandible, ilium, posterior axial skeleton with tail club, all of one hind limb including pes, armour, with skin impressions.
