Genus: Gigantspinosaurus OUYANG, 1992
Etymology: Latin, giganteus, "giant", Latin, spinos, "needle, spine" and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: sichuanensis OUYANG, 1992
Etymology: In reference to Sichuan Province, where the specimen was discovered.
= Tuojiangosaurus multispinus (referred material) GAO, HUANG & ZHU, 1986

Holotype: ZDM 0019

Locality: Pentang, Yinhe, Jinquan (Zhongquan) County, Zigong, Sichuan Province, China.

Horizon: Upper Shangshaximiao Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oxfordian Stage, Lower Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Pair of complete lower jaws, associated 8 cervicals, 16 dorsals and 4 sacral vertebrae, some anterior caudals, some girdles and limbs, some dermal plates, 4 small scutes, a pair of parasacapular spines, and a piece of skin impression near the right parascapular spine.

Note: The left femur is pathologic, with bone tumors (HAO, MAIDMENT, BERTAZZO, PENG, & YOU, 2018)
