Genus: Glyptodontopelta FORD, 2000
Etymology: “Glyptodon ” and Greek, pelta, “sheild ”; in reference to the scute pattern over the pelvis looks similar to a Glyptodon.

Species: mimus FORD, 2000
Etymology: Greek, mimos, “mimic”: In reference to the osteoderms mimicking the scute pattern of a Glyptodon.

Holotype: USNM 8610

Locality: Barrel Springs Arroyo, about 1 mile southwest of Ojo Alamo Store, San Juan County, New Mexico.

Horizon: Naashoibito Member, Kirtland Formation (old Ojo Alamo Formation).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Kirtlandian age, uppermost Maastrichtian Stage, uppermost Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A number of dermal scutes with many fragments. A small section of ilia scutes similar to Stegopelta.

Hypodigm:

USNM 8611: Several plates similar to the pelvic scutes, some scutes are heaver and thicker.
