Genus: Kunbarrasaurus LEAHEY, MOLNAR, CARPENTER, WITMER, & SALISBURY, 2015
Etymology: The generic name combines the Mayi (Wunumara) word, Kunbarra [kunbarra], "shield" and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: In honor of Mr In Ievers, discoverer of the holotype. The name therefore means 'Ieveres sheild-lizard'.

Locality: Found on a low ridge south of the Flinders River near Richmond, Queensland State, Australia.

Horizon: Allaru Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull and nearly complete skeleton with armor.
Note: Plant remains have been found in the gut region (MOLNAR & CLIFFORD, 2000, 2001).
