Genus: Propanoplosaurus STANFORD, WEISHAMPEL & DELEON, 2011
Etymology: Greek, pro-, "toward or before" and Panoplosaurus Lambe, 1919;
because of the strong resemblance of the natural mold of the bony ornamention
of the dorsum of tis skull with that of Panoplosaurus mirus (ROM 1215), a much
later nodosaurid ankylosaur.
Species: marylandicus STANFORD, WEISHAMPEL & DELEON, 2011 (Type)
Etymology: In reference to the state of Maryland, where it was discovered.
Holotype: UNSM 540686
Locality: Prince Georges County, Maryland.
Horizon: Patuxent Formation, Potomac Group.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Early Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Fragmentary skull and fragmentary skeleton of a supposed hatchling.
Note: I believe this to be a concretion and not a real fossil.
