Etymology: Greek, sauros, “lizard”, and Greek, hoplites, “armored soldier” for its armor: “shield-carrier lizard”.

Species: scutiger BOHLIN, 1953
Etymology: Latin, scutum, "shield" and Latin, -iger, "bearing."
= Sauroplites spiniger MARYANASKA, 1971 (sic)

Holotype: IVPP (now destroyed)

Locality: Tebch, Ordos (Shaan-Gan-Ning) Basin, Kansu Province, China.

Horizon: Zhidan Group, Oshih equivalent.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aptian-Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Partial ischium (A), 7 ribs (B), and several dermal plates.
Note: Possibly a Shamosaurid? (TUMANOVA, 1987)
