Etymology: Greek, stego, “cover”, and Greek, pelte, “shield”: “covered shield”.

Species: landerensis WILLISTON, 1905
Etymology: In reference to Lander, near where the specimen was discoverd.

Locality: Near Conant Creek, southeast of Lander, T33N, R93W or R94W, Fremont County, Wyoming.

Horizon: Base of Belle Fourche Member, Frontier Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Latest Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Uppermost Early Cretaceous Epoch or earliest Cenomanian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Lowermost Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous.

Material: Maxillary? with 3 partial alveoli, other skull fragments? 7 cervicals, 2 dorsals, parts of the synascrum, proximal caudal centrum, distal caudal centrum, parts of both scapulae, both humeral heads, proximal end of left ulna, proximal ends of both radii, parts of both ilia, distal end of tibia, metacarpal, metatarsal, bifurcated shoulder spine? Half of a cervical neck ring and several other scutes.
Note: Paleopathology? Lower 3 raised bosses on the part of the sacral shield show slightly depressed circular features (TANKE & ROTHSCHILD, 2002).
