Genus: Zaraapelta ARBOUR, CURRIE, & BADAMGARAV, 2014
Etymology: Mongolian, hedgehog; in reference to the spiky appearance of the skull, and Latin, pelta, "shield"; in reference to the osteoderms found on all ankylosaurs.

Species: nomadis ARBOUR, CURRIE, & BADAMGARAV, 014
Etymology: Latin, nomas, "nomad"; in reference to Mongolian travel company Nomadic Expeditions, which has facilitated many years of palaeontological fieldwork in the Gobi Desert.

Holotype: MPC D100/1338

Locality: Hermiin Tsav (Khermeen Tsav), 43°28.345'N, 99°51.032'E, western Ömnögov (South Gobi), Mongolia.

Horizon: Baruungoyot Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Middle-Upper Campanian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A partial skull missing the rostrum.
