Etymology: Greek, austro, "southern"; in allusion to South America, and Poseidon, in referene to the Greek God responsible for earthquakes.

Species: magnificus BANDEIRA, SIMBRAS, MACHADO, CAMPOS, OLIVEIRA, & KELLNER, 2016
Etymology: Latin, magnificus, "great, elevated, noble," in allusition to the large size of the specimen.

Holotype: MCT 1628-R

Locality: Raposo Tavares road (BR-374), close to the Assis Chateaubriand Road (SP-425), at the outskirts of the Presidente Prudente City, Southwestern Sao Palo State, Brazil.

Horizon: Presidente Prudente Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Allenian Tetrapoda Assemblage, Late Campanian-Early Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: 2 incomplete cervical vertebrae, 1 cervical rib, 2 dorsal vertebrae, 7 fragments of dorsal vertebrae and a fragment of a sacral vertebra.
