Etymology: In reference to Sierra Barrosa, Neuquen Province, Patagonia, Argentina, the locality where the holotype of the type species was found, and Greek, sauros, "lizard or reptile."

Species: casamiquelai SALGADO & CORIA, 2009
Etymology: In honor of the late Rodolfo Casamiquela (1932-2008) for his important contributions to the development of Argentinean Earth Sciences.

Holotype: MCF-PVPH-447/1-3

Locality: Sierra Barrosa, 38°50'27"S, 68°50'28"W, Neuquen Province, Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Lower Anacleto Formation, Rio Colorado Subgroup, Neuquen Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lower Campanian Stage, Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf epoch, Late Cretaceous.
