Genus: Ignavusaurus KNOLL, 2010
Etymology: Latin, ignavus, "coward," and Greek, sauros, "lizard": Because
the type locality, Ha Ralekoala, literally means, 'the place of the father
of the coward'.
Species: rachelis KNOLL, 2010
Etymology: In honor of the paleontologist Raquel Lopez-Antonansas from the
National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid (CSIC). The name Raquel comes
from Hebrew (ewe); its most common Latin form (Rachel) is a noun of the third
declension, hence the genitive ending is '-is'.
Holotype: BM HR 20
Locailty: A romote sited in southern Lesotho, S30°04', E28°23', close to the place named Ha Ralekoala, not far from Sekake, Oacha's Neck District, Lesotho.
Horizon: Upper Elliot Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Hettangian Stage, Lower Lias Epoch, Early Jurassic.
Material: Teeth, skull fragments, quadrate, postorbital, doral series and proximal third or so of the tail, fragment of scapula, and early complete pelvis, a substantial part of the left forelimb as well as a large portion of the right leg, a fragmentary left femur and phalanges of left foot.
