Genus: Isanosaurus BUFFETAUT, SUTEETHORN, CUNY, TONG, LE LOEUFF, KHANSUBHA & JONGAUTCHARIYAKUL, 2000
Etymology: Generic name from Isan, the local name for northeastern Thailand, and Greek, sauros, " lizard ."

Species: attavipachi BUFFETAUT, SUTEETHORN, CUNY, TONG, LE LOEUFF, KHANSUBHA & JONGAUTCHARIYAKUL, 2000
Etymology: In honor of P. Attavipach, former Director General of the Thai Department of Mineral Resources, a long-time supporter of Palaeontological research.

Holotype: CH 4

Locality: Phu nok Khian hill near Ban Non Thaworn Village, in Chiyaphum Province, Khorat Plateau, northeastern Thailand.

Horizon: Dark red sandstones of the Nam Phong Formaton.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Norian or Rhaetian Stage, Upper Triassic Epoch, Latest Triassic.

Material: 1 cervical, 1 dorsal and 6 caudal vertebral centra, the neural arch of a posterior dorsal vertebra, 2 chevron bones, fragmentary ribs, a right sternal plate, a right scapula and a left femur.
