Etymology: In reference to Jinghsan Town, northeast Lufeng, Yunnan Province, China and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: xinwaensis ZHANG & YANG, 1994
Etymology: In reference to Xinwa Village, Yunnan Province, China.

Holotype: LV003

Locality: Xinwa Village, about 6 km away from Jinghsan Town, northeast Lufeng, Yunnan Province, China.

Horizon: Lower part of dark purple mudstone (about 200 meters to Shibei), which is about 210 m to the dark purple or brown conglomerate, Lower Lufeng Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Jurassic.

Material: Skull and nearly complete skeleton.
