Etymology: In reference to the Malargue Department, Mendoza Province, Argentina,
where the specimen was found and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: In honor of Florencia Fernandez Favaron, who collaborated in our
field work for years, and found the first fossil remains of this species.
Holotype: IANIGLA-PV 110
Locality: Quebrada Norte Quarry, Paso de las Bardas area, Malargue Department, Mendoza Province, Argentina.
Horizon: Portezuelo Formation, Rio Neuquen subgroup, Neuquen Group.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Late Turonian Stage, Uppermost Gallic Subepoch to Early Coniacian Stage, Lower Senonian Subepoch, Lower Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: Proximal, middle and distal caudal vertebrae, chevrons, dorsal ribs, fragment of humerus, an incomplete femur, and several bone fragments.
Referred material:
Locality: Cerro La Torre Site, 600 m south of Quebrada Norte Quarry, Paso de las Bardas area, Mendoza Province, Argentina.
Horizon: Portezuelo Formation, Rio Neuquen subgroup, Neuquen Group.
